FOR Costa Angels, care has never simply been about providing someone to help with the practicalities of everyday life. It is about finding the right person to become part of a client’s life – someone who brings experience, reliability, warmth and, importantly, genuine human connection.
Based on the Costa del Sol, Costa Angels has built a diverse team of experienced carers from a wide range of nationalities, cultures and professional backgrounds. Some have worked in care for many years; others have backgrounds in nursing, hospitality, childcare, social care or other people-focused professions.
What they share is a genuine desire to make a difference.
Every carer joining Costa Angels goes through a thorough recruitment process, including interviews, references and appropriate background and police checks. Experience is important, but so are communication skills, compassion, reliability and attitude.

“It’s not just about physical care. It’s about emotional connection, compassion, and making a real difference every day, Mwaka, a Costa Angels carer, says.
It’s about the person, not just the care plan
Costa Angels takes time to consider who will work best with each client. Personality, interests, language, background, experience and even shared hobbies can all be important when making a match.
A client may need help with personal care, mobility, meals and household tasks, but they also need someone who understands them who sees them. Someone who will have a conversation, encourage them to maintain their interests, accompany them on a walk, watch their favourite programme or simply recognise when they are having a difficult day.
Carers naturally help with the household too – preparing meals, laundry, shopping and keeping things organised – but their primary focus remains the client, their wellbeing, independence, family relationships and quality of life.
Supporting the carers who provide the care
Costa Angels also believes that looking after carers is an important part of looking after clients.
The agency has carers who have remained with Costa Angels for many years, something the team believes comes from being available, approachable and supportive. Carers know they can pick up the phone when they need advice, discuss a concern or ask for guidance.
One carer who has worked with Costa Angels for almost five years says the matching process has resulted in ‘“’long lasting placements’”’, while another describes the company as ‘supportive and professional, an all round great team to work with.’
Feedback works both ways. Costa Angels listens carefully to what clients and families say – celebrating the carers when they receive wonderful feedback, but also having constructive and developmental conversations when something could be improved. The aim is never simply to criticise, but to help carers grow, learn and continue providing the best possible service.
And hearing that a client is happy really does matter.
As one Costa Angels carer put it: “It’s really pleasing to know that clients look forward to your visits.”
For Costa Angels, there is no single type of person who makes a great carer. There is a place for different nationalities, languages, personalities, skills and life experiences. What matters is finding the right strengths for the right client.
Because ultimately, excellent care is not just about what a carer does.
It is about how they make someone feel.
