WESTERN CAPE— Western Cape SAPS head Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi and top provincial police officials inspected a Blode Street murder site in Lavender Hill on Sunday morning, 25 October 2026. The inspection came after a gun attack left five dead and three injured. The incident happened a week after five gang members were arrested for a double murder in Steenberg.
According to the South African Police Service, Dyantyi stated that mass killings in residential areas must never be accepted as standard. Specialized police units were dispatched to the neighbourhood to hunt down the suspects facing murder and attempted murder charges.
SAPS calls on public for assistance
Authorities urged members of the public holding details about the event to reach out via Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or transmit anonymous reports through the MySAPS mobile app. Law enforcement has pledged a R100 000 cash reward for information resulting in a court conviction.
While at the site, Dyantyi denounced an assault targeted at Steenberg station officers who attended the initial emergency call on Saturday night. Onlookers threw stones at police vehicles as officers pulled up to secure the area.
